Peter Crawford

PETER CRAWFORD b, 1951 - 1999.

A renowned surf photographer and some would say one of the world’s best lensman the industry has seen. Having grown up on Sydney’s Northern Beaches he was also an avid surfer. His body of work spanned over 3 decades and in this time he captured some of the most influential riders in surfing’s history. PC was not just a photographer, he was on forefront of the innovation Designs. His slab kneeboard and widow-maker fin set allowed him to hone his skills in and around the tube, Crawford rode fast and deep, forward, back, over, under, and sideways. Where George Greenough left off, Peter Crawford picked up. And like Greenough, he was five years ahead of the best stand-up surfers of the day. Or seven years. Or more. The carving 360 Kelly Slater introduced around 1990, Crawford was doing it in 1970. His love for the ocean and seeing things in a different light allowed him to create some of the surfing worlds’ iconic photos. His body of work was magnanimous, photographing over one million images in his lifetime. In 2001, PC was inducted into the Australian Surfing Hall of Fame.
